Warriors control Cardinals in straight sets

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia volleyball played their last home game of the 2018 season on Wednesday night. The team hosted Indiana Tech for another WHAC conference match. The Warriors came away with the three set sweep (25-17, 25-8, 25-20)

Janie Bunge (SR/Ottawa Lake, MI) led the Cardinals with 24 digs. Hailey McCourt (SO/Toledo, OH) had a team-leading 13 assists. Gabrielle den Boer (SO/Canton, MI) and Lena Thompson (JR/Howard City, MI) tied for the team lead with 5 kills apiece. Madelyn Kragt (SO/Grand Rapids, MI) led the team with 4 block assists in the game.

Set 1 – Indiana Tech 25, CUAA 17

Nicole Evans (SO/Bristol, IN) recorded a kill for Concordia's first point of the match. Indiana Tech jumped out to an early 8-2 lead, but the Cardinals battled back to pull within 2 points on several occasions. A kill from Delaney Bennett (JR/Fruitport, MI) cut the CUAA deficit to 18-16 late in the set. However, Indiana Tech closed the set on a 7-1 run to win set 1.

Set 2 – Indiana Tech 25, CUAA 8

Gabrielle den Boer put Concordia up 1-0 with a kill to begin the 2nd set. The Warriors responded with an 11-0 run, controlling the pace of play for most of the set. The Cardinals made a 3-0 run late in the set, but Indiana Tech took set 2 by a score of 25-8.

Set 3 – Indiana Tech 25, CUAA 20

Gabrielle den Boer and Lindsey Luff (FR/Flushing, MI) combined for a block to give CUAA the first point of the 3rd set. The Cardinals kept pace as the set went on, capitalizing on Warrior attack errors to force an 11-11 tie. Concordia continued to make strong hits, and the team took a 16-13 lead later in the set.

After Indiana Tech responded to take a 17-16 lead, Lena Thompson tied the game off a set from Kylie Frank (SR/Chelsea, MI). However, the Warriors closed the set on an 8-4 run to secure the game with a win in straight sets.

The Cardinals will play their final game of the season this Saturday, November 3 when they travel to Cornerstone. The game is set to begin at 1pm.
