(Rochester, MI) The Concordia volleyball team continued conference play with another road match Wednesday night. The Cardinals traveled to Rochester College and were defeated by the Warriors in four sets - 25-15, 25-20, 18-25, 25-32.
1st Set – CUAA 15, RC 25
The Cardinals stumbled out of the gate and struggled to find their rhythm early in the opening set. Gabrielle den Boer (SO/Canton, MI) paced the Cardinals attack with 3 of her team high 10 kills in the first set. Nine errors would prevent the Cardinals from putting together consistent rallies.
2nd Set – CUAA 20, RC 25
The Cardinals came out with energy and urgency in the second set keeping even with the Warriors, 12-12. Three quick points would force a Cardinals timeout, 12-15. Three Warriors errors allowed the Cardinals to claw back, 17-18. Three consecutive Cardinals errors gave the Warriors game point and the eventual set.
3rd Set – CUAA 25, RC 18
The Cardinals would not go away quietly efficient third set. The Cardinals recorded a match high 16 kills with only 6 errors. An attacking percentage of .294 allowed the Cardinals to keep the Warriors on their heels. Nadia Rozmarniewcz and Lindsey Luff (FR/Flushing, MI) stepped up to record 5 and 4 kills respectively. Rozmarniewcz matched den Boer for a team high 10 kills as well.
4th Set – CUAA 23, RC 25
After a 6-6 start, three quick points by the Warriors forced a Concordia timeout, 6-9. Strong attacks by Rozmarniewicz and den Boer brought the Cardinals back and eventually evened the set, 14-14. After keeping the game knotted at 20-20, the Warriors slowly pulled away due to attacking errors by the Cardinals.
Hailey McCourt (SO/Toledo, OH) recorded a team high 22 assists with Janie Bunge (SR/Ottawa Lake, MI) anchoring the Cardinals defense with 18 digs. Denae Tolu (JR/Canton, MI) and Hailey McCourt also recorded 12 digs.
What's Next?
Concordia will return to Ann Arbor for a weekend double header. The Cardinals will host Lawrence Tech University on Friday, September 14th at 7pm followed by Lourdes University on Saturday at 5pm.
