Cardinals drop opening matches at Judson tri-match

(Ann Arbor, MI) The Concordia volleyball team traveled to the state of Illnois to start the 2018-19 season at the Judson University Tri-Match. After exploring the city of Chicago on Friday afternoon, the Cardinals took to the court Saturday afternoon with a matchup against Spring Arbor University followed by host, Judson University. The Cardinals dropped both matches and will now return home to host the Concordia Invitational Tournament on September 1st.

Concordia University vs. Judson University – L – 25-22, 21-25, 16-25, 18-25

Here's How it Happened:

  • The Cardinals jumped out to a quick start against the Cougars with a 12-8 lead. The Cougars responded with 6 consecutive points to take the lead and first set, 25-20. The Cougars would take the following two sets to sweep the Cardinals.
  • Delaney Bennett (JR/Fruitport, MI) paced the Cardinals offensive attack with 8 kills. Wayne State transfer, Janie Bunge (SR/Ottawa Lake, MI) displayed her experience leading the team with 10 assists and 13 digs. Hailey McCourt (SO/Toledo, OH) was the only other Cardinal to record double digit digs with 10.
  • The Cardinals once again came out strong to start their second game of the day against Jusdson University. The Cardinals dominated the early set leading 11-5 after an Emerson Krolewski (FR/Chesterfield, MI) ace. Judson eventually tied the set at 18-8 but four straight attacking error gave the Cardinals the lead for good.
  • The Cardinals ended up on the short end of an evenly matched 2nd set falling, 21-25. The Cardinals recorded 9 kills in the set but could not pull away due to 14 errors for a hitting percentage of -.125.
  • The Cardinals recorded a match high 13 kills in the 3rd set but eventually fell short to the host Eagles.
  • Nadia Rozmarniewicz (SR/Pinckney, MI) paced the Cardinals attack with a career high 10 kills. Kylie Frank (SR/Chelsea, MI) led the Cardinals with 28 assists and 14 digs.

Here's Where it will Happen Next:

Concordia will host the Concordia Invitational Volleyball Tournament over Labor Day weekend. The tournament will feature three teams in the form of a tri-match on Saturday, September 1st. The Cardinals will face Concordia University Chicago first at 10am on Saturday followed by Concordia Wisconsin at 2pm. All games will be held at Cardinal Field House with the schedule and further details released later this week.
