Men's Lacrosse falls in close top-ten battle at Madonna

(Livonia, MI) - CUAA men's lacrosse traveled to Madonna University on Wednesday afternoon for a critical contest The Cardinals entered ranked #7 in the country while the Crusaders came in ranked #5 CUAA slowly chipped away at a four-goal halftime deficit, taking a 14-13 lead late in the fourth quarter. However, Madonna rallied in the final minutes for a 15-14 win. 

 

Joseph Loria placed a complete game in net making 15 saves Cooper Regimbal opened scoring off an assist from Spencer Guppy Madonna responded with three straight goals Andrew Simmons ended their run with a marker in the last two seconds assisted by Cooper Regimbal CUAA traveled 3-2 after the first quarter. 

 

Travis Wright tied the game with a goal early in the second quarter Madonna countered with three more goals until Ryan Davis scored off an assist by Wright Spencer Guppy and Travis Wright added goals, but CUAA trailed 10-6 at halftime. 

 

Andrew Simmons scored to open the third quarter with Ross Preston drawing the assist The Cardinals began to find success on the power play with Ryan Davis scoring and Travis Wright completing his hat trick Spencer Guppy added a power play marker as well and CUAA trailed 12-10 after the third quarter. 

 

Marcus Villagomez continued the rally with a goal assisted by Andrew Simmons early in the fourth quarter Madonna countered with a goal, but Cross Papadelis started a 3-0 run with an unassisted marker Spencer Guppy and Ryan Davis finished their hat tricks to give the Cardinals a 14-13 lead with 3:31 left to play However, Madonna tied the game and then scored a go-ahead goal with 25 seconds left to secure a 15-14 win.   

 

CUAA will return this Saturday, April 19th, to host #7 Lawrence Tech at 1pm.
