(Grand Rapids, MI) - CUAA softball traveled to Aquinas on Saturday afternoon to wrap up the WHAC regular season. The Cardinals took game one 3-2 and claimed a 10-4 victory in game two.
GAME ONE: CUAA 3, Aquinas 2
Paige Anderson pitched a complete game with four strikeouts. Payton Lewis opened scoring with a solo home run in the top of the first. Aquinas countered with one run at the bottom half of the inning. In the third inning, Faith Cramton hit a 2-RBI single to score Katie Tobias and Megan Martin. Aquinas responded with one run in the bottom half.
Both defenses held strong and CUAA claimed a 3-2 victory.
GAME TWO: CUAA 10, Aquinas 4
Elyse Brittain started game two on the mound, making one strikeout in 1.2 innings. Aquinas scored one run in the first inning and three runs in the second inning. Hannah Duchene came on to pitch in the second inning, making one strikeout in the remaining 5.1 innings.
In the third inning, Katie Tobias got the Cardinals on the board with a sacrifice fly to score Payton Lewis. In the fourth inning, Kaleigh McClelland used a sacrifice fly to send Maddy Greuter home.
The Cardinals surged ahead with seven runs in the fifth inning, starting with a RBI double by Katie Tobias to score Payton Lewis. Tobias later reached home on an error and Bella Lee drew a bases-loaded walk to force Lauren Rhodea home. Kaleigh McClelland added an RBI single to score Maddy Greuter. Summer Brady continued the damage with a 2-RBI double driving in Kaleigh McClelland and Bella Lee. Payton Lewis capped the inning with an RBI double to drive in Summer Brady.
In the seventh inning, Payton Lewis reached home while Katie Tobias was caught in a rundown. The Cardinal defense held strong and earned a 10-4 victory.
CUAA will now participate in the WHAC tournament this upcoming week.
