Softball drops two on Second Day of Tucson Invitational Games

(Tucson, AZ) - The Concordia Cardinals softball team continued their spring break trip with another pair of games against #RV Embry-Riddle and Arizona Christian on Monday.

GAME 1 - Embry-Riddle 7, Concordia 4

Paige Anderson got the start in the circle for the Cardinals as she pitched the first inning and a third. The Eagles were able to put up a run in each of the first two innings to go up 2-0. Anderson totaled two runs on six hits.

The bottom of the second saw the Cardinals respond with a run of their own as Bella Lee walked and Emma Thompson followed that up with a triple down the right field line.

An Eagle hitter reached base in the third but the scoring attempt was thwarted when Emma Liptow made a diving catch in right to end the inning. The Cardinals used that momentum in the bottom of the inning as they were able to plate three runs to take a 4-2 lead.

Liptow and Grueter reached base to start the inning and Katie Tobias doubled to left field to bring in Liptow and Faith Cramton singled up the middle to score Grueter. The final run of the inning came when the Eagle's catcher overthrew third base and Tobias was able to advance home.

The fifth and sixth inning saw the Eagles plate five runs that tied and gave them the lead in the game. The next two Cardinal innings saw them get a runner on in each but were not able to put a run on the board.

Kendall Kahl (1-1) came into pitch in the second inning and pitched four innings total where she gave up five runs on seven hits while striking out a batter. Hannah Duchene finished up the Cardinal pitching with 1.2 innings as she allowed two hits and struck out a batter.

GAME 2 - Arizona Christian 10, Concordia 2 - 6 Innings

The first run of game #2 on the day went to the Cardinals as Katie Tobias doubled over the centerfielder's head to score Payton Lewis

Faith Cramton opened the top of the 2nd up with a single and moved to second on a groundout, she would wind up coming around to score off Madalyn Wieneke's single to right center field.

The third inning was when the Firestorm took the final lead change of the game when they plated seven in the inning. They were able to piece together a double and a couple of singles to score their runs. The inning did end with an ACU runner attempting to advance to second on a single and being thrown out by Katie Tobias

The Cardinals were only able to get a couple of base runners on base in the final three innings, as the Firestorm were able to play solid defense. ACU scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth as the score would hit 10-2 to end the game.
