(October 15th, 16th, & 19th, Ann Arbor, MI) - Friday October 15th, the Lady Cardinals took the court at home vs Aquinas College in their first match up of the season. Every team has nights where things just don't go right and unfortunately this was one of those nights. The Cards could do little to slow down Aquinas as they dominated every aspect of the game in a 3 set win 25-12, 25-10, 25-7. The Cards could not offer much resistance as they only mustered 15 kills in the match while hitting -.148. The Cards looked to put this game in their rear view mirror as they returned to the court Saturday October 16th for their homecoming match vs Goshen College.
"Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to start turning your season around." said Coach Justin Martin. This was exactly what the last two days in the Cardinal Field House looked like. On a day where the 1995 National Championship runners up were inducted into the Cardinal hall of fame, which included such notables as Karen Graves (Keskey) Head Coach of Marygrove College and Kim Berrington Head Coach at Eastern Michigan University, the Lady Cardinals could do no wrong. The Cardinals hit an astonishing .457 for the match while committing only 7 hitting errors. To go along with 7 aces and 7 blocks the Cardinals put away a short-handed Goshen in 3 sets for the second straight year 25-20, 25-13, 25-9. Ashley Hart returned to form as she tallied 16 kills, 5 digs and 4 blocks. Senior Shannon Murphy had a team high 12 digs to go along with, 6 kills, 1 ace and 3 blocks. Jaymee Wise orchestrated the offense with 34 assists, 2 kills, 3 aces, and 3 digs. Danielle Guss was one kill away from yet another double-double as she had 9 kills and 11 digs. The Lady Cardinals did everyone in attendance proud as they honored homecoming in style with a convincing win. The Cards looked to carry this momentum through to Tuesday night as they hosted conference opponent Siena Heights Saints who defeated the Lady Cards earlier this season in 3 sets.

Two in a row! The Lady Cardinals put together another strong showing Tuesday night as they took revenge on the earlier loss by beating the Saints in 3, 25-23, 25-21, 25-18. The Cards were once again paced by Ashley Hart with 15 kills, 2 aces, 6 digs, and 1 block. Coach Martin stated that "this was a complete team effort as our two outsides Danielle Guss and Ali Miller combined for 27 digs in the back row while the other four hitters combined for 32 kills while hitting .406%."
The Lady Cardinals look to dish out some pay back as they travel to Davenport University for their next match on Thursday. If you're in the Grand Rapids area come on out and support your Cards! Good Luck Ladies!
