Lauren Reichel named NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week

The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced their weekly awards on Monday and Lauren Reichel (SO/Onsted, MI) was named the Pitcher Student Athlete of the week. Reichel's efforts against the team's 1-0 win over Minnesota State University – Moorhead led to the honor.

Before the spring season was cut short, the Cardinals were able to complete two games as part of their spring trip. After dropping the first game 7-2 to the University of Sioux Falls, the Cardinals responded to defeat Minnesota State University-Moorehead,1-0. In game two of the double header, Head Coach Hailey Cavanagh called on sophomore ace Lauren Reichel. Facing an NCAA DII opponent, Reichel made the most of the opportunity with a dominating performance. Reichel pitched a two-hit complete game shutout leading the team to a 1-0 victory. Reichel struck out one batter and did not allow a walk.

This is the first time Reichel has been recognized by the NCCAA in her young career as a Cardinal. She is also the first Cardinal softball player to be honored this season by the NCCAA.

This will be the last award for the 2020 spring season due to COVID-19. The WHAC and NAIA recently announced the cancellation of the spring sports season.
