(Rochester, MI) Concordia Baseball took a trip to Rochester Christian to take on the Warriors on Friday afternoon. The Cardinals came away victorious in game one by a score of 11-7 before falling in game two 8-4.
Game 1: Concordia 11 - Rochester Christian 7
Trey Acker started on the mound for CUAA and continued his strong season as he went six innings allowing just one earned run. In the third inning Derek Hebner homered to the opposite field to put the Cardinals up 1-0. In the fourth inning an RBI double from Tyler Lawson scored Gus Simon and Clayton McKinstry. Jake Kuhlman followed that up with a single to score Lawson. A home run from Josh Burke in the fifth inning put them up 5-0. Rochester responded in the bottom half of the frame with a solo shot.
The sixth inning saw Jake Kuhlman smash a three run home run to bring home Logan Hylek and Justin Kozlowski. Burke then hit his second home run of the day to score himself and Garrett Williams to go up 10-1. Kozlowski hit a sac fly to score Hylek to further the lead. Rochester Christian responded with six runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning, but Ryan VanSlambrouck came on to shut the door and give the Cardinals their fifth straight win.
Game 2: Concordia 4 - Rochester Christian 8
Bryon Mane started the game on the mound for CUAA, going two innings while allowing two earned runs. Blake Weaver came on in relief and pitched 5.1 innings while only allowing 4 earned runs. Gus Simon got things started in the second inning with a double to score Clayton McKinstry. Rochester was able to respond in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run home run.
Jake Kuhlman was able to single home Justin Kozlowski in the top half of the third inning to knot the game up at two. In the bottom half, RCU was able to put up two of their own runs. A fifth inning solo home run put them up 5-2. Tyler Wressel responded with a big home run to score himself and Garrett Williams to put the game within one in the eighth inning. The Warriors came back with three of their own in the eighth inning, and that was enough for them to take home the win 8-4.
The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday as they welcome Indiana Tech to Ann Arbor for a WHAC doubleheader at 1pm!
