Baseball picks up 8-1 win at Toccoa Falls

(Toccoa Falls, GA) The Cardinals wrapped up their road trip in Georgia on Monday against the Toccoa Falls Screaming Eagles. The Cardinals took advantage of a big third inning to give them an 8-1 victory.

 

Game 1: Concordia 8, Toccoa Falls 1

Bryon Mane led the Cardinals on the mound with a complete game, one-run performance. Mane allowed only three hits with five walks and three strikeouts to pick up his first win on the season.

 

The first two innings of the game started slow for both teams, but in the third inning, the Cardinals erupted for four runs. The scoring started with a Gus Simon ground ball which led to an error by the shortstop Will Miller. Tyler Lawson scored on the error to put the Cardinals up 1-0. Justin Kozlowski hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Simon to increase the Cardinal advantage. The Cardinals pushed across their third run of the game with a Josh Burke groundball to the third baseman Nick Eckert which led to a throwing error that allowed Jake Kuhlman to score after he reached on a base hit. which scored the pinch-runner Clayton McKinstry to push the Cardinal lead to 4-0 after the third inning.

 

The fourth inning started with a Simon single. Simon advanced to second base through a stolen base, and Kuhlman hit a single to score him to push the Cardinal lead to 5-0 heading into the fifth inning.

 

The Screaming Eagles would score their only run in the game in the sixth inning from a Ray McCarron fielder-choice on a ground ball to first base. Charlie Compton scored on the play.

 

The Cardinals would score three more runs in the seventh inning, starting out with a Simon single and stolen base that led to a Kuhlman double that scored Simon. With Kuhlman on second base, he stole third base and advanced home on an error by the catcher Connor Merritt to make it a 7-1 ballgame. The Cardinals would score their eighth run on the day on another bases-loaded walk that scored Kyle Hebner to push it to a 8-1 ballgame, which would be the final score.

 

Game 2

Game 2 against Toccoa Falls was cancelled due to insufficient umpires.

 

 

The Cardinals will hit the road again to Mountain Dew Park in Marion, IL for a four-game series against Olivet Nazarene. First pitch of the series will be at 4 PM on Friday, February 28th.
