Trumitch Named WHAC Setter of the Week

(Sept. 24, 2007 - Grand Rapids, Mich.) -- Every sport has their key position, the player that most things feed off of. In football, it's the quarterback. In baseball it would be the pitcher and in basketball it's the point guard. For volleyball, it's the setter and the Concordia volleyball team's vastly improved squad has a lot to do with the off-season addition of Lindsay Trumitch (Jr. - Riverview, Mich.). This week was testament to what a quality setter can do for a program as the Cards finished the week with a 4-2 record and an invitational championship.
Trumitch averaged 10.22 assists per game after compiling 235 over the six-game week. On Friday night, Trumitch had 56 assists in a match against Oakland City University, a NCAA Division II squad, that set the Concordia single-match record. The following morning, Trumitch put up another 53 assists against host Taylor-Ft. Wayne to put the Cardinals in the championship match Falcon's Invitational.
Concordia would win their first invitational championship in years after dropping two midweek conference matches against national powers Cornerstone and Madonna. The Cards took the first game against Madonna on Tuesday, ending a near-decade long drought of not winning a game against the Crusaders, before falling in four sets. Two days later, the Cards played the Golden Eagles better then they have in recent memory despite falling in straight games.
With the presence of Trumitch, the Cardinals are looking to finish in the top of the conference standings this season and bring home more hardware from tournaments such as this past weekend in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
