The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced their weekly student-athlete of the week awards on Monday afternoon. The NCCAA recognized Gabby Porter as the women's cross country student-athlete of the week. Porter was recognized for her efforts after taking first at the Cardinal Old School Invite on Saturday.
Porter was strong from the start and took advantage of having the home trail. With hay bales serving as obstacles in the race Porter pulled away in the final quarter of a mile with a time of 20:07. Bentz and Porter ran together for most of the race and was the second meet this season the duo finished in the top two.
It was the second time this fall season that Porter took first place as she Siena Heights Invitational a couple weeks ago where she set a personal record of 19:14. The personal record moved her to fourth on the Cardinals all-time record board.
This marks the first time in Porter's Cardinal career that she has been recognized as a student-athlete of the week by the NCCAA. Porter joins fellow Cardinals Ryan Webb (Men's soccer), Kayla Peters (Volleyball), and Samantha Golchuk (Women's Soccer) to be recognized in other sports as an NCCAA student-athlete of the week.
