Men's soccer overcome by Kalamazoo second half surge

(Kalamazoo, MI) Concordia Men's Soccer took to the road Saturday evening for a non-conference matchup at Kalamazoo College. The Cardinals scored the first goal of the match, but Kalamazoo's three second half goals gave them the edge in the end.

The Cardinals were able to strike first in the opening ten minutes when Elijah Mack brought down a ball in the attacking third and found Bryce Schaner who beat the Hornet keeper with his left boot. The rest of the first half saw the Hornets out shoot the Cardinals, but Dario Cela and the defense in front of him held firm.

About ten minutes into the second half, Kalamazoo's Lucas Ruiz netted the equalizer when the Cardinals were unable to clear the ball out of the box. Later in the half Ruiz gave Kalamazoo the lead when her scored off of a cross from the left wing. The Hornets sealed the game in the final minute when Henry Plumstead broke away on a one-on-one breakaway and slid one past Cela to make it 3-1 in the end.

The Cardinals will return home for a match against Grace Christian on Wednesday, September 4th. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM at Ferry Field at Cardinal Stadium.
