WHAC cancels the remainder of spring athletics season

WHAC RELEASE

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) announced on Friday evening (Mar. 13) that it is cancelling the remainder of the 2020 spring athletics season in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic across the country. This decision is in regards to competitions, practices, workouts, and team activities for all teams and will be effective starting March 14th.

The WHAC Council of Presidents voted unanimously on the decision to cancel the remainder of the athletic year, which affects all Concordia varsity and junior varsity spring sports programs.

For the well-being of all student-athletes, WHAC leaders made the difficult decision to cancel competitions for the rest of the year due to COVID-19. This heavy news impacts our entire Concordia community, especially our athletes who put in the work every day to compete at the collegiate level. We pray for the health and safety of our students during these uncertain times.

Statement from WHAC officials:

"This was done in the best interest of the student-athletes of our conference. In the coming weeks, the WHAC Executive Council will work on any conference issues that need to be resolved and also support NAIA policies that assist our student-athletes that were impacted by this national crisis in terms of eligibility."

Concordia's response to COVID-19:

We continue to monitor developments regarding the COVID-19 outbreak with your health and safety at the forefront of our decision-making. While there are no cases of COVID-19 at Concordia Wisconsin and we believe the risk to our students, faculty, and staff remains low, it is our responsibility to you and our greater community to be proactive in our efforts to prevent the spread of this illness. At the same time, we are committed to continuing the academic excellence and vital work of the university.

Concordia Ann Arbor will suspend face-to-face instruction effective Monday, March 16. All courses (including labs) will be delivered online.

Alternate delivery of classes will begin on March 16 (or March 23 for those on spring break next week) and continue at least through Monday, April 13. A decision on when and whether in-person instruction will resume will be shared in early April. For updates from Concordia Ann Arbor, click here.
