Men's Basketball drops road contest at Lawrence Tech

(Southfield, MI) - Concordia men's basketball traveled to Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon in WHAC play.  The Cardinals started out with an early lead, but the Blue Devils eventually pulled away for a 96-69 win. 

 

Ray Washington-Battle led the team with 18 points and five rebounds.  Colby Chapman and Jack Olis finished second with nine points apiece.   

 

 

Mason Canfield opened scoring with a triple.  Ray Washington-Battle drove for an early layup and Jack Olis added free throws.  Matt Blanton chipped in a basket and Jack Olis made two more free throws.  Lawrence Tech rallied to take a 13-11 lead, but Ray Washington-Battle responded with two drives to the basket along with a jumper.  Mark DeVries made a tip-in and the game was tied 19-19 at the midway point of the half. 

 

LTU retook the lead with an 8-0 run until Jack Olis hit a jumpshot Mark DeVries and Ray Washington-Battle added layups, but the Blue Devils continued to extend their lead.  CUAA trailed 47-27 at halftime. 

 

Jason Jergens opened the second half with a 3-pointer.  Matt Blanton added a layup and Jack Olis nailed a triple.  Mason Canfield made a jumper, but LTU used a 10-0 run to extend their lead again.  Ray Washington-Battle ended the run with two drives to the basket and Colby Chapman hit two triples. However, CUAA trailed 70-49 at the midway point of the second half. 

 

Colby Chapman converted an "and-1" to continue his strong play.  The Cardinals looked to their bench for a spark with Trevor Viau making a jumpshot and a layup.  Ben Hamina scored a basket and Gabe Sweat converted a layup.  Hunter Yeakey nailed a triple and Francis Senter drained a free throw.  Gabe Sweat added a late 3-pointer as well. However, CUAA fell 96-69 as time expired.  

 

Concordia will play next when they host Aquinas this Tuesday, November 26th, at 7:30pm.
