During the 2003-2004 season, Steffen was promoted to head coach just before the Concordia Invitational Tournament. As interim head coach, Steffen lead the Cardinals to a 2-7 finish that season.
Steffen guided the Cardinals to a 59-44 win over Concordia-River Forest on January 31, 2004, picking up his first career collegiate coaching win.
At the completion of the 2003-2004 season, Steffen had the "interim" tag removed from his title as he assumed the head coach position.
In each of his two full seasons as the helm, Steffen's squads have increased their win total from the previous year. This past season, Steffen's squad made their first appearance in a tournament championship game when they fell to the Grace Lancers at the Grace Classic 58-42. The Cardinals also posted their first win over WHAC rival since the 2002 season when Concordia beat the Saints 64-58 on Jan. 7 in Ann Arbor.
Prior to coming to Concordia, Steffen held the position of Video Scouting Intern for the Milwaukee Bucks Basketball Team of the National Basketball Association. In addition to his duties with the Bucks, Steffen served as a junior varsity coach at Brookfield Academy High School. Steffen was also the head coach and founder of the JS Warriors AAU Basketball Club in 2000-01.
Steffen is a 2001 graduate of Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He received a B.A. in Communication from WLC and was a member of the Warriors Basketball Team. Steffen will complete his Master's degree from the United States Sports Academy in September of 2006.
A native of Champaign, Illinois, Steffen currently resides in Ypsilanti.

Sarrah Palmer goes into her second year on the Cardinal staff for the 2006-2007 season. Palmer is 2005 graduate of Concordia and will serving as varsity assistant and head JV coach.
Palmer competed for two years for the Cardinal Basketball team and was an all-WHAC, all NCCAA selection, and team most valuable and respected player in her senior season. She also completed three years of softball for the Cardinals. Prior to attending Concordia Sarrah competed in Basketball and Softball at
