Coach Yahn begins his first season at Concordia University.  His background includes a wide range of basketball experiences. Most recently, he served as an assistant coach at Longwood University. Prior to joining the staff at Longwood, He previously spent time as an assistant coach at Cornell University, following a year as the video coordinator at George Mason University, as well as a stint as an assistant coach at Saint Vincent College. At Longwood, Yahn was involved in all aspects of the program, including on- and off-campus recruiting, opponent scouting and game plan preparation, coordination of team travel, player skill development, and assisting with practice preparation.
 

Yahn was responsible for all team travel operations under Cornell head coach Bill Courtney, and prepared advanced scouting reports of opponents, while involved with player development as well. He served as director of Cornell’s Basketball Camps, oversaw administrative functions and daily operations, coordinated the recruiting mail-out system with Scoutware, and supervised all student managers.
 

At George Mason under head coach Jim Larranaga, the 2013 Division I National Coach of the year, Yahn managed technical software such as Scoutware and Synergy, prepared teaching DVD’s for players, assisted with advanced scouting reports, assisted with team travel, was involved with administrative functions and daily operations, and supervised student managers.
 

Yahn also has professional coaching experience with Birmingham Athletics in England where he served as a player/coach during. He has played professionally in both England and Buffalo, New York.
 

Yahn was a four-year member of the men’s basketball team at Wheeling Jesuit, and two-year team captain, earning first-team All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) honors during 2006-07 when he earned Team MVP honors as well. He helped WJU to a pair of NCAA Division II post-season tournament appearances, along with a WVIAC Championship in 2005, and finished his collegiate career with 1,467 career points that ranks eighth all-time at the school. He is also WJU's career leader in made 3's.
 

A native of Wheeling, West Virginia, Yahn earned his bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Wheeling Jesuit University in 2007. Yahn comes from a long line of successful basketball coaches from Wheeling, WV. His high school, Wheeling Central has produced the late Skip Prosser (Former Wake Forest & Xavier Head Coach), Dino Gaudio (Former Wake Forest Head Coach), Doug Wojcik (Head Coach, College of Charleston), Dave Wojcik (Head Coach, San Jose St) as well as several other Division I assistant coaches. University of Michigan head coach John Beilien is a former Wheeling Jesuit basketball player as well.
 

Yahn was married to the former Lindsey Sun on August 4, 2012 in Buffalo, New York.

Kyle enters his 2nd season with the men's basketball team. Prior to his current position, Thoms was the Vice President of Sales for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants which is a NBA D-League basketball franchise in Fort Wayne, IN. His position with the Mad Ants was a result of a successful internship he completed while a student in CUAA’s Haab School of Business and Management. Thoms is a 2008 graduate of Concordia University - Ann Arbor and was a four year member of the men’s basketball team while being named team captain his final two years. Thoms led the men's team to consecutive winning seasons and back to back Concordia Invitational Tournament Championships in 05-06 and 06-07. He was also Concordia’s representative for the WHAC Champions of Character three years in a row.

In July, Thoms joined CUAA’s Undergraduate Admission’s staff as an Admission Counselor. He works with high school students on the east side of the state and also Indiana. He is currently enrolled in Concordia University - Wisconsin's Master Business Administration program. Coach Thoms is also the Head Junior Varsity Coach for the men's basketball program at Concordia.

Assistant Coach - 1st Season

John Janssen begins his first season at Concordia as an assistant coach to Ricky Yahn.
 

Janssen brings a wealth of experience to the Cardinals bench. Last year John worked as an assistant coach at California Baptist University in Riverside, Ca after spending the previous seasons at the University of Redlands where he earned a master of arts in higher education. While at Redlands, Janssen helped the Bulldogs capture the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship en route to the 2011 NCAA Division III National Tournament – the school’s first appearance in 26 years.
 

Before entering the college ranks, Janssen coached three seasons at Huntington Beach (Calif.) High. He served as an assistant coach for the varsity team and head coach for the junior varsity squad.
 

Janssen played from 2000-03 at Grand Canyon University. As a 2003 senior, he earned All-CCAA honors. He graduated in 2003, earning a bachelor's degree in marketing. After graduating, Janssen also played in several foreign professional basketball leagues, including Australia, Germany and Uruguay, as well as the ABA here in the states.
 

John is originally from Huntington Beach, California.

Assistant Coach - 1st Season

Nick Sherwood begins his first season at Concordia as an assistant coach to Ricky Yahn.

In two seasons as head coach for Rudolf Steiner high School boys basketball, Sherwood led the team to the school’s first Mid-South League Championship, and it’s first ever district championship game. Prior to that he was freshman head coach and varsity assistant for the Milan Big Reds. Nick led the Milan Big Reds freshman team to a third place finish in the Huron league.

Player Development Coach - 5th Season

Alum, Marv Fox Jr. rejoined the Cardinal coaching staff in 2010.  Fox Jr. played 4 years (2000-2004) for Concordia University - Ann Arbor, while earning a degree in Psychology.  After graduating, Marv went on to work for Concordia in the admissions department.  In addition to working for the University, Coach Fox also joined the men's basketball coaching staff.  After his 2 year tenure at the University, Marv went on to become a performance coach for Velocity Sports Performance (VSP). While working for Concordia University and VSP, Marv exercised his entrepreneurial spirit and created Meticulous Basketball (MB). Meticulous Basketball is an initiative designed to develop the 5 pillars of basketball skills - Moving - Catching - Dribbling - Passing - Scoring.  After 3 years at VSP, Coach Fox took a step on faith and went into business full-time as a basketball skills instructor.  In 2010, Marv rejoined the Concordia men's coaching staff with the expectation to use his background in skill development and performance training to improve upon last year's efforts.  Marv is excited about being able to give back to the players and the University that supported and developed him as a student athlete.
