(Saturday Sept. 11th, Defiance, OH) Day 2 of the Defiance Invitational saw the Lady Cardinals start off slow but finish with a bang. The Lady Cards came out sluggish in their first match against Manchester. The girls were playing their fourth match in 3 days and it did hamper their play. The girls were tired and were controlled at the net by a more physical Manchester team. The Cards lost in straight sets 14-25, 18-25, and 11-25. Leading the way for the Cardnials was Danielle Guss (Lamberstville, MI) with 13 digs and Ashley Hart (Birmingham, MI) with 9 kills.

Although the girls were tired in their first match of the day that certainly wasn't the case in their last and final match of the tournament. The Lady Cards absolutely dominated their fifth match in three days as they defeated Defiance College in straight sets 25-12, 25-9, and 28-26. According to Coach Justin Martin the Cards "dominated in every aspect in the finale." Leading the way for the Cardinals was Junior Ashley Hart recording 15 kills and 5 total blocks. Even after becoming Concordia's record holder in block assists the day before Hart did not slow down and added 2 more to her total. Sara Wegmann (Andrews, IN) also had another strong performance recording 5 kills on 8 attempts for a hitting percentage of .625.

With Ashley Hart's great performance throughout the tournament she was named to the All-Tournament Team and finished the tournament with 3.77 kills per game and 1.38 blocks per game.

Concordia is taking a much needed rest in the next couple days and returns to action Tuesday night away at Cornerstone University for their second Conference match-up. Good Luck Ladies!
