Antonio Laboda Made History by Scoring CUAA's First Ever Touchdown.
(Defiance, OH)--The Concordia football program made history on Monday by taking the field, but they weren't satisfied by just showing up to take on the Defiance Yellowjackets JV team.  The Cardinals made history in a big way by defeating Defiance 37-14 in a game that was dominated by the Cardinal defense and special teams.  Right off the bat the Cardinal special teams showed up by blocking a punt.  Antonio Laboda (Belleville High School--Belleville, MI) will go down in the history books as the first ever Cardinal football player to score a touchdown.  Laboda scooped up the blocked punt and took it to the end zone to record the Cardinals first points. Not to be outdone, the Cardinals defense was incredible.  The "Red Storm" shut down the Yellowjackets throughout most of the night and even put two touchdowns of their own on the board.  Preston Haggadone (Lapeer West High School--Lapeer, MI) took an interception back for 6 and Antonio Laboda picked off a pass and returned it for a touchdown as well.  The Cardinal special teams blocked two punts on the day, had a touchdown on a fumble return on a kickoff by Dominic Trogan (Essexville-Garber--Essexville, MI) and also accounted for a 38 yard field goal kicked by Nathan Smith (Lapeer West High School--Lapeer, MI)

The Cardinal offense was led by Desmond Edwards (Jackson High School--Jackson, MI) who took a pass from Scott Galland (Interlake High School--Bellevue, WA) to the end zone with less than a minute to go in the first half.  The Cardinal defense did the rest from there.  The defense was outstanding and kept the Jackets out of the end zone right up to the very end.  Matt Strzalkowski (Brighton High School--Brighton, MI) sealed the win with an interception on the last play.

The Cardinals will have their only home game on September 11th at 1:00 at Huron High School against the University of Michigan Flint.  Be there to cheer on your Cardinals.
