(August 27, 2010 Canton, OH) -- Day 1 of the Malone Invitational Tournament saw the Lady Cards lose to rank Cambellsville University in straight sets losing 23-25, 18-25, and 9-25."We played well" Coach Justin Martin stated. "We had less errors then last weekend but Cambellsville capitalized on the errors we did have. We did take a step in the right direction. Leading the way for the Cardinals with a team high 9 kills and 2 block assists was Junior Ashley Hart (Birmingham, MI-Marian). Sophomore Hannah Shiff (Ann Arbor, MI-Pioneer) also played well for the Cards recording 11 digs. Junior Jaymee Wise (Irvine, CA) had 23 assists for the Cards.
Concordia's second match was with a very tough Union College out of Kentucky. The Cards fell to Union in straight sets losing 15-25, 17-25, and 13-25. Concordia took another step in the right direction according to Coach Martin. He stated "we were much better in transition, Union was the best team we played so far and they took advantage of our weaknesses." Junior Danielle Guss (Lambertsville, MI-Bedford) led the way with 14 digs while freshman Stephanie Emington (Reed City, MI) had a stellar game for the Cards having 7 kills in 12 attempts and also recording 8 digs.
Concordia finishes the day 0-2 and now is 1-5 on the season.
The team continued to get better each game and looks to bounce back on Day 2 of the Malone Invitational tomorrow August 28, against Grace College and Bluefield College.
