Danielle Guss led the Cardinal Volleyball team with 11 kills and 12 digs.
(Ann Arbor, MI)--Day 2 of the
Cardinal Kickoff Classic saw Concordia lose a 5 set heart breaker to Purdue
North Central 25-14, 21-25, 19-25, 25-22, 10-15. PNC wore Concordia down
with a strong attack from both their outsides. Leading the way for the
Cardinals with a team high 20 kills and 4 aces was Junior Ashley Hart
(Birmingham, MI-Marian). Junior Danielle Guss (Lambertsville, MI-Bedford)
recorded the first double-double of the season with 11 kills and 12 digs.
Freshman Sara Wegmann (Andrews, IN-Huntington) recorded 6 kills and 3 total
blocks.
Concordia is now 1-2 on the
season.
Concordia closed with a match
against Rochester College. Turning into a heated rivalry Rochester beat
Concordia (25-27, 22-25, 21-25). An up-tempo attack from Rochester and
inopportune errors cost the Cardinals. Junior Ashley Hart (Birmingham,
MI-Marian) led the way with 14 kills. Freshman Samantha Jones (Bloomfield
Hills, MI-Lahser) led the team with 12 digs. Senior Shannon Murphy
(Linden, MI-Linden) finished strong with 7 kills, hitting .66% with 2 blocks.
Concordia finishes the tournament
1-3.
The team continued to get better
each game and even though 1-3 was not the record the Lady Cards were looking
for, Coach Justin Martin stated "that the improvement made each game gives
the young Lady Cardinals something to build on." The Lady Cards will
be a tough opponent for any team this year!
