Ashley Hart had a great game for the Lady Cardinals.
(Ann Arbor, MI)--Concordia University opened their 2010 season with much
anticipation and excitement on Friday August 20th at Cardinal Field
House. The Lady Cards were hosting the
Cardinal Kick Off Classic Tournament once again this year. The Cards opening match was against Lourdes
College, a team in their first inaugural season. Despite this being the Gray Wolves' first
season they were an extremely tough and talented team. The Lady Cards dropped their first match of
the year to Lourdes College 22-25, 22-25, 22-25. Concordia looked very
sharp on their attacks, but the small things hurt them as they couldn't
overcome a strong defensive showing by Lourdes as well as 15 service
errors. Leading the way for the Cardinals was Junior Ashley Hart
(Birmingham, MI-Marian) and Junior Danielle Guss (Lambertsville,
MI-Bedford). Hart finished the match
with 12 kills, 6 digs and 5 total blocks while Guss added 5 kills, 2 aces and 16
digs.
Concordia falls to 0-1 on the season.
The second match of the day went more according to plan as
Concordia University beat Marygrove College with ease 25-18, 28-26, 25-9.
Concordia found their formula to success by only committing 7 attack errors
while having 10 aces and 11 total blocks as a team. Leading the way was
Ashley Hart (Birmingham, MI-Marian) with 12 kills, 1 ace and 4 total blocks and
Junior Jaymee Wise (Irvine, California-Concordia NY) with 3 kills, 22 assists,
4 aces and 3 total blocks.
Concordia moves to 1-1 on the season and looks to build upon this
momentum for day number two at their Cardinal Kickoff Classic.
