Cardinal's Honor Seniors Kordick and Junga
Indiana Tech 5, Concordia 1
Indiana Tech 13, Concordia 5 (6 innings)

(May 4, 2010 - Ann Arbor, Mich) - The Cardinal softball team was hoping to end their rough stretch of losses on Monday when they played host to the Warriors of Indiana Tech. Unfortunately, on a day that honored seniors Laura Kordick (Plymouth, Mich) and Ashley Junga (Macomb, Mich), the home team could not take advantage of solid pitching in game one, or hot early inning bats in game two, to end their 10 game losing streak.

Jeni Bollenbacher (So - Edwardsburgh, Mich) threw a superb five innings for the Cardinals as she gave up only one run on five hits in the first five innings of the opening game. The Cards took a 1-0 lead in the third on a throwing error by the Warrior infield to score Katie Gallan (Jr - LaSalle, Mich) who had reached base on a bunt single.

The Cards would give up a run in the top of the fourth and two more each in the sixth and seventh innings to fall 5-1. Concordia could only manage two hits for the game as Junga also had a bunt single in the first.

The bats came alive for Concordia in the second game of the double header as they would score five runs in the first two innings. Gallan started the first inning off with a single that was stretched to a double after the centerfielder fumbled the ball. Junga would follow with a single up the middle to move Gallan to third. After a wild pitch to score Gallan and push Junga to third, Junga would score on a passed ball to score the second and final run of the inning.

Concordia would have an even bigger inning in the third. With two out and three runners on base, pitcher Catherine Herriman (So - Adrian, Mich) doubled to left center scoring all three runners to push the lead to 5-0 in favor of the home team.

The five run cushion would not be enough as Indiana Tech (34-21, 17-11) would go on to score 13 runs over the next four innings to earn the win and improve their playoff positioning for this week's WHAC tournament.

The Cardinals end the season with a record of 8-36. Gallan led the way in hitting percentage as she batted at a .340 clip as well as stealing 16 bases on 19 attempts. Herriman recorded 25 RBI's to lead the team to go along with her 13 extra base hits including four home runs. Freshman Hannah Sabol led the team in slugging percentage with a .467 average after collecting 11 doubles and four home runs in her opening campaign. Jeni Bollenbacher led the way with pitching wins as she earned five victories in her sophomore season.

Senior Laura Kordick was named to the WHAC All-Academic team for the second straight year.
