Madonna 9, Concordia 1 (5 innings)

(April 14 2010, Ann Arbor, Mich)  - The Cardinals were hoping to put two solid games together at the plate and in the field against Madonna (23-6, 7-1) on Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately, the hits were few and far between on the day as Concordia could only salvage one run in the doubleheader.

Early on in the first game it looked as though the teams would be dealing with a close affair. After neither pitcher gave up a hit in the first two innings, Madonna would score twice in the third on one hit and an error.

The Crusaders would score four more in the fifth and one more for good measure in the seventh as the Cardinals would give up seven hits while committing four errors. Grace Muller (Fr - Onsted, Mich) would go 2 for 3 in game one for Concordia and Catherine Herriman (So - Adrian, Mich) and Breannae King (So - Garden City, Mich) would each get a hit of their own.

The Cardinals couldn't change the tide in the nightcap as they continued to struggle giving up seven hits and 2 errors en route to a 9-1 loss. Madonna would get off to a quick start scoring seven times in the opening inning and dashing any hopes of a split.

The lone run for the home team came in the first inning when Katie Gallen (Jr - Katie Gallen) would single then eventually reach home on a Muller base hit. Herriman would also single in the same inning.

Besides a base hit by Greficz in the second and another single by Herriman in the third, Concordia struggled to keep pace with Madonna at the plate and in the field. Herriman collected both losses on the day moving her record to 3-11 on the year.

The Cardinals (6-23, 1-12) will look to get back on the winning track on Friday when they travel to Adrian Friday afternoon to take on Siena Heights (15-24, 4-8). Concordia earned a split with the Saints a week ago when they won the first game 2-0 and then lost 4-3 in the second game.
