Junior Marius Williams
(Feb. 24, 2010 - Adrian, Mich.) -- The game was shaping up much like the previous playoff game between Concordia and Siena Heights down on the Saints home court. The earlier contest ended with Concordia picking up it's first-ever road playoff game as Casey Livingston struck from the corner as time ran out giving the Cards a 63-60 win in 2006. Down 59-58, the 2009-10 Cardinal squad appeared ready to strike again. Unfortunately, they couldn't get over the hump as the Saints finished off the scoring with an eight-point run to win 67-58 ending the Concordia season.
Marius Williams (Jr. - Belleville, Mich.) had a solid night as he dropped in 16 points on 6-of-17, including four three-pointers, to pace the Concordia scoring effort.
Rocko Holmes (So. - Cadillac, Mich.) narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds, as well as adding a quartet of assists.
Siena Heights was bouyed by a trio of scorers on the night as Brent Reynolds and Chris Shiels each scored 16 points, while Mark Snipes added a dozen points. Reynolds lead the work on the boards with nine rebounds, while Jake DeRoeck added six and Snipes five for the Saints.
The game was primarily a well-played affair as both teams finished with more assists than turnovers (Concordia 13-12, Siena Heights 11-9) while they both shot, for the most part, well. Concordia finished at nearly 38 percent, while the Saints countered at almost 42 percent.
Where the two teams differed was the distinct advantage the Saints had in rebounds, as they secured 44 boards to the Cardinals 33.
The loss ends the Concordia season at a 12-19 overall record and advances Siena Heights to the WHAC semifinal round with a trip to regular season champion Cornerstone on Saturday.
