Concordia-Ann Arbor 80, Concordia-Chicago 63
(Jan. 30, 2010 - Mequon, Wisc.) -- The Concordia Cardinals fell behind 6-0 in the consolation game of the 59th Annual Concordia Invitational Tournament. The Cards would storm back gaining a lead as large as 13, before the Cougars of Concordia-Chicago would score 16-straight points over a six-minute stretch at the end of the first-half and the beginning of the second to take a two-point lead. The Cardinals would score 33 of the game's final 49 points to earn a 80-63 win to improve to 9-15 overall on the season.
Marius Williams (Jr. - Belleville, Mich.) would have a phenomenal game hitting 50 percent from the field, including 5-of-11 from beyond the three-point arc, to finish with a game-high 26 points to lead the Cardinals to the victory. Ryan Walton (Fr. - Ypsilanti, Mich.) came off the bench to contribute 11 points.
While the bigs Jeremy Simmons (So. - Detroit, Mich.) and Rocko Holmes (So. - Cadillac, Mich.) did their job of wiping the glass for rebounds with eight and nine boards, respectively; it was the emotional-life provided by the hustle of guard Kyle Barlow (Sr.- Howell, Mich.) - all of 6'1 - who finished matching Holmes' total for rebounds. Barlow hauled in eight of his nine boards on the defensive end of the court.
Simmons would add nine points and two blocks, while Barlow pitched-in a half-dozen points. Austin Cook (So. - Mt. Clemens, Mich.) had eight points as 12 Cardinals scored in the game - a season high.
Justin Hineman was strong for the Cougars as he finished with a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds while Concordia-Chicago picked up points from Larrell Gary and Jeff Weberg who added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Cardinals will now look to the remaining WHAC schedule as they try to improve upon their current 5th-place status in the conference standings. Concordia will host Siena Heights on Wednesday and Indiana Tech on Saturday afternoon. The Cards lost to the Saints in Adrian 73-59 on Jan. 9, while picking up their first win ever in Ft. Wayne on Jan. 13 after knocking off the Warriors 67-63. A pair of wins could put the Cardinals in position to battle for a home-court playoff game down the stretch of the schedule.
