(Jan. 29, 2010 - Mequon, Wisc.) -- The Concordia women's basketball team opened the 59th Annual Concordia Invitational Tournament on Friday afternoon and midway through the first-half enjoyed an 11-10 lead. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, the rest of the game wasn't as pretty as the Bulldogs of Concordia-Nebraska outscored Ann Arbor 69-34. In their 10th appearance in the tournament, the Cards will play in the consolation game for the ninth time while the Bulldogs will play for their fourth straight tournament championship and 24th overall.
The Cardinals, who shot 35 percent in the first-half, fell to only 27 percent in the final 20 minutes but missed all 10 attempts from the three-point line. Keeping Ann Arbor in the game was the ability to knock down the free throw, as the Cards completed 17 of their 23 attempts, finishing at 74 percent.
Conversely, Nebraska shot nearly 49 percent from the field, including 8-of-20 from behind the arc, as well as making 15-of-20 from the charity stripe.
Despite the team struggles, Hannah Sabol (Fr. - Shelby Twp., Mich.) finished with a strong game as she had another double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, as well as a pair of assists.
While her floor shooting was off-the-mark, Kortni Elsworth (So. - Goodrich, Mich.) rode a hot hand at the free-throw line as the guard finished with 10 points on the day. Elsworth was only 2-of-12 from the field, including 0-for-6 from the three-point line, but made six of her seven free-throw attempts.
Angela Kuca finished with 14 points and Raegan Broadie had 11 for Concordia-Nebraska.
Concordia-Ann Arbor (12-11) will play the loser of the host Concordia-Wisconsin vs. Concordia-Chicago game on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. EST.
