(Jan. 29, 2010 - Allendale, Mich.) -- The Concordia indoor track and field squad headed west on Friday afternoon to participate in the Grand Valley State University Open as the season is beginning to reach the final weeks before the outdoor season begins. Dorian Lancaster (Fr. - Detroit, Mich.) had the highest finish for the Cardinals with Ashley Hart (Fr. - Birmingham, Mich.) competing admirably well in three separate events.
Hart began the day in the women's 60-meter dash and finished the preliminary race with a time of 8.94, just missing the cut for the finals. Samantha DeStefano of Aquinas College won the final race with a time of 8.02.
The women's 200-meter dash would find Hart with a 35th place finish in the finals as another Aquinas Saint would take home the spoils with a time of 25.61 for Allison Strouse. Hart's final event was the long jump, where she had her highest finish of the day with a distance of 4.00-meters, good for 18th overall. Ana Kidder of Ashland won the event with a distance of 5.10-meters.
On the men's side, the day began with the 60-meter dash with a trio of Cards in the field. Maxime Joseph (So. - Detroit, Mich.) and Lancaster finished in a near-tie with times of 7.62, but Joseph got the nod in the standings with a 33rd place finish, while Lancaster was listed 34th. Bernard Joseph (So. - Detroit, Mich.) was less than a second behind his teammates as his 7.69 finish earned him the 37th overall spot. Will Fulton of Northwood University was the victor as he crossed at 6.91.
The three from the 60-meter dash would all participate in the men's long jump, with Lancaster earning the highest finish with a distance of 6.03-meters, which was 13th overall - the best finish of the day for a Cardinal. Bernard Joseph would put up a distance of 5.59 meters, which was 21st overall, with brother Maxime being slightly behind at 5.51 meters and a 22nd place finish. Ryan Rademacher of the host Lakers won the event with a distance of 7.18 meters.
Will Cantrell was the lone Card in the field for the men's 800-meter run, and with a time of 2:11.75, finished 40th overall in the event. Northwood's Jared Discher ran in a time of 1:54.36, earning the first-place finish.
Cantrell was back again for the 1-mile run, along with teammates Martell Buchanan and Ryan Burmeister. Buchanan would be the first Concordia runner to finish the race with a time of 4:48.61, which was 40th overall. Right behind in the standings was Cantrell and his time of 4:52.88, while Burmeister crossed at 5:00.69 which earned him the 45th place spot. Brandon Bauer of Ashland won the event with a 4:13.15 time.
Next up for the Cardinals is the Findlay Open at the University of Findlay on Feb. 5. The indoor season will conclude with the WHAC Championship at Trine University on Feb. 20.
