(Jan. 23, 2010 - Ann Arbor, Mich.) -- Looking across the gathered masses at the University of Michigan indoor track complex one individual stood out: Dorian Lancaster. While every other participant in the weekend's Simmons-Harvey Invitational represented a major NCAA Division I program, Lancaster (Fr. - Detroit, Mich.) was the only NAIA representative at an event that was invite only.

Lancaster held his own in the the two events he participated in as he finished 10th overall in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.29-meters. The jump was the second-longest of Lancaster's young career as he personal-best on Dec. 9 at the University of Findlay Invite broke the 10-year-old school record set by Kevin Wade back in 2000. Lancaster is now ranked one and two in Cardinal history in the event.

"We expect Dorian to continue to improve and we are hoping he will hit the NAIA National Qualifying standard of 22 feet and 7 inches," said Steve Montgomery, head coach of the Concordia track program.

Lancaster also was in a crowded field of 30 other runners - representing six Division I schools - in the men's 60-meter dash. While 20 runners finished ahead of the freshman, 10 other runners got a great view of Lancaster's back side as he crossed at 7.33 earning a 21st place finish.

As with the long jump, Lancaster is looking to improve in the dash and hoping to shave at two-tenths of a second off to be able to qualify for the NAIA Nationals later this season.

The entire indoor track and field program will be back in action on Jan. 29 when the Cardinals travel to Allendale to participate in the Grand Valley State University Open.
