Sophomore Martell Buchanan
(January 9, 2010 - Ypsilanti, Mich.) -- The Concordia indoor track and field team started the 2010 portion of their indoor season with the shortest of trips as they headed east for several minutes to participate in the Eastern Michigan University Invite in a non-scored event. Martell Buchanan (So. - Detroit, Mich.) came in first in Section 1 of the Men's 200-meter dash finishing in a time of 24.04 with teammate Max Joseph (So. - Detroit, Mich.) finishing in second with a time of 24.77.
Buchanan joined Ryan Burmeister and Garry Cantrell in the men's one-mile run with Buchanan finishing in sixth in Section 1 with a time of 4:50.10, while Cantrell finished 9th in Section 1 and 23rd overall with a 5:02.69 time while Burmeister grabbed the 12th spot with a time of 5:25.58.
Max Joseph joined his brother Bernard, as well as Morgan Schwab, in the men's long jump. Max had a fifth place finish in Flight 2 with a distance of 5.70 meters, while Bernard finished seventh in the flight with a distance of 5.52 meters. Schwab didn't register a distance in the event.
Bernard Joseph would also run in the men's 60-meter dash with Doran Lancaster. Joseph, running in the preliminaries in the fourth heat finished in sixth with a time of 7.76, while Lancaster ran earlier in the second heat and finished sixth with a time of 7.34.
Ashley Hart had a busy afternoon as the freshman participated in three events beginning with the 60-meter dash, where she finished in sixth in the preliminaries out of Heat 2 with a time of 8.78. Hart would return in the 200-meter dash running in the sixth Section finishing fifth with a time of 30.24. Her day would conclude with the long jump as she would register a distance of 4.15 meters, which was good for fifth in the first flight.
Next up for the Cardinals is the Simmons-Harvey Invitational, a two-day event on Jan. 23-24, hosted by the University of Michigan.
