Aquinas 3, Concordia 0
(Nov. 3, 2009 - Grand Rapids, Mich.) -- The Concordia volleyball team couldn't get any momentum during the conference portion of their schedule this season, but despite a regular-season ending loss to the Saints of Aquinas College, the Cards still cling to an outside chance of advancing to the postseason. On Tuesday night, Concordia fell to Aquinas in straight sets to drop to 2-12 in the WHAC and 12-26 overall.
Four seniors could have played their final game as Cards as Ashley Zair (Sr. - West Bloomfield, Mich.) added a few more digs to her record-setting career as she had a dozen digs against Aquinas with a kill and an assist.
Samantha Cuppen (Sr. - Port Huron, Mich.) had three kills and three digs, while Rachel Compton (Sr. - Whitmore Lake, Mich.) had 12 assists, two digs and a kill. Shilo Stewart (Sr. - Brighton, Mich.) may have finished her career with 11 digs against the Saints and an assist.
The Cardinal attack was lead by Ashley Hart's (So. - Birmingham, Mich.) seven kills with Shannon Murphy (So. - Linden, Mich.) and Courtney Seeley (Jr. - Breckenridge, Mich.) each adding five.
Jaymee Wise (So. - Irvine, Cal.), the heir apparent to Compton at the setter position, had nine assists, one kill and one dig for the Cardinals.
After starting 7-1 to open the season, Concordia dropped 25 of their last 30 games and now hope that the Wolves of UM-Dearborn knock off the Siena Heights Saints on Tuesday night, forcing a three-way tie with UMD playing a non-conference game to finish the season. A Wolves win against SHU and a loss to Huntington University on Nov. 6 will give the Cardinals the final playoff spot by process of tie-breaker.
