Cardinal Senior Marie Negre-Collas
Madonna 7, Concordia 0
(October 31, 2009 - Ann Arbor, Mich) After dominating conference opponent Indiana Tech a month ago, it looked as if the women's soccer team had turned their season around and would contend for a playoff spot. Unfortunately the 5-1 win would be the last one of the year for a team that lost seven straight to end the season.
Madonna (5-7, 6-12) dominated every statistical category against the Cardinals Saturday afternoon en route to a 7-0 shutout win. The Crusaders took a early 1-0 lead on a shot by Jessica Austin six minutes into the game. The Crusaders would follow with another goal to go into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
The second half would prove to be worse for the home team as Madonna rattled off five more goals to put the game away and send the Cardinals into the post-season on a losing note.
The team honored senior Marie-Negra Collas (Paris, France) as she played her final collegiate soccer game. Concordia finishes the season with an overall record of 3-14 and last place finish in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. The Cardinals will return 15 players to next year's team in hopes of rebounding with a stronger season in 2010.
