(Oct. 27, 2009 - Ann Arbor, Mich.) -- Four seniors played their final home game for the Concordia volleyball team Tuesday evening, but unfortunately the results weren't what the team was looking for in their sendoff as the Cardinals fell in straight sets to the Davenport Panthers. Katie Matz (Fr. - Livonia, Mich.) lead the Cardinal attack with eight kills with Ashley Zair (Sr. - West Bloomfield, Mich.) anchored the defense with 12 digs.
Zair and Rachel Compton (Sr. - Whitmore Lake, Mich.), the two four-year members of the senior class, were joined by two-year players Samantha Cuppen (Sr. - Port Huron, Mich.) and Shilo Stewart (Sr. - Brighton, Mich.). While Cuppen has been with the program for three seasons, she was medically red-shirted last season.
In addition to the dozen digs, Zair added three assists on the night while Compton had nine assists and three digs. Cuppen finished the game with four kills and two blocks assists, while Stewart had five digs.
Jaymee Wise lead the Cardinal attack as she finished with 12 assists as well as a service ace.
But the night belonged to the Panthers who were lead by Kassie raves and her 15 kills and Ashley Penny's 10. Kayla Vandermolen finished with 37 assists and seven digs, to lead Davenport in both categories.
Concordia (11-22, 2-10 WHAC) has two remaining conference matchups in addition to their trip to Shawnee State this weekend to participate in the Bears tournament. The Cardinals are still hoping to make the WHAC tournament, but they need to win at least one of their final two games and hope the Siena Heights Saints drop both of their conference matches.
