Cardinal Junior Michael Ujkic C
Concordia 4, Marygrove 1
(October 28, 2009 - Ann Arbor, Mich) The Concordia men's soccer team took to the field against Marygrove for the second time this season looking to gain momentum going into the last two all-important conference games. The Cardinals, who won the first meeting against the Mustangs 6-0, won a closer contested rematch 4-1 in which the visitors from Ann Arbor would scored three second half goals.
Concordia (6-8-2) was coming off a huge victory over Davenport on Saturday when they scored the game winner in overtime. This time, the Cardinals would find their offense a little quicker as they scored the first goal off a Michael Ujkic (Jr. - Novi, Mich) shot 28 minutes into the game.
Marygrove (4-10) would then capitalize on a Cardinal turnover to tie the game at one. The score would remain tied with the Cardinals holding a 10-7 shot advantage going into halftime.
Both teams came out defensive minded to start the second half. Thankfully for Concordia, Ujkic would once again find the back of the net at the 68:15 mark for his fourth goal of the season. Ujkic would also collect an assist on a Justin Schultz (So. - Belleville, Mich) goal with six minutes to play. The goal was the first of the season for Schultz.
Cardinal forward Yonathan Zeleke (So. - Lansing, Mich) would follow up three minutes later for the team's fourth and final goal of the game. Cardinal keeper Kyle Winningham (Fr. - Canton, Mich) picked up the win seeing little action as he made one save on two shots.
Next up for the Cardinals is a rematch with WHAC foe Madonna University on Saturday at Rummel field. The Crusaders defeated Concordia 3-0 back on September 26 in Livonia. Concordia needs to win their final two conference games to earn a playoff spot. The team will also honor their seniors at halftime of the 2:30 game.
