(Oct. 17, 2009 - Bowling Green, Ohio) -- It took nearly all season, but the Concordia men's cross country team finally had enough healthy runners to register their first team scoring of the year as the Cardinals finished in 17th place in a very crowded field at Bowling Green State University. Jim Abrams lead the way with a 74th place finish with a time of 27:01.1, which is fifth all-time in Cardinal history. Two other Cards, Will Cantrell and Sam Bruer, also posted season-best times in the race.
Cantrell was the second Cardinal to cross with a time of 29:29.1, which was 114th overall, while Bruer was fourth on the team and 122nd overall with his time of 32:14.0. Sandwiched inbetween Bruer and Cantrell was Ryan Burmeister, who despite being ill the day of the race, put forth a yeoman's effort and finished in 30:26.3, which earned him a 116th place finish. Providing the team with the necessary fifth runner was James Moore, who will be looking to make an impact on the Concordia track team but volunteered to give it a go in the distance doing well for a first-timer. Moore finished in 36:07.4, finishing 125th overall.
The Golden Flashes of Kent State University, who had the first two runners to finish, won the team title. Scott Hilditch won the race in a time of 24:12.5 with teammate Amion Scullion finishing less than two seconds later at 24:14.1.
For the women, Corinne Kuclo suffered an injury and couldn't finish leaving the Cardinals with only one other runner in the field in Amanda Hohnstadt. With a time of 25:43.1, Hohnstadt finished in 124th overall. Alex Lizarribar of Kent State won the individual portion with a time of 21:47.5, finishing nearly 11 seconds ahead of Lia Jones of Oakland University.
The Cardinals have only one meet remaining for the year with the NAIA Great Lakes Invitational Saturday morning in Grand Rapids, hosted by Aquinas College.
