(Oct. 20, 2009 - Adrian, Mich.) -- Katie Matz recorded a career high 15 kills on Tuesday night in the Concordia Cardinals interconference matchup at Siena Heights. Unfortunately, the Cards couldn't capitalize as the Saints swept through Concordia to take the season series 2-1 (including one non-conference matchup). The loss creates a logjam in the sixth and final playoff spot between Concordia and Siena Heights, with the Saints holding the tie-breaker as they won both official conference meetings this season. Both teams have four remaining conference games.

While Matz (Fr. - Livonia, Mich.) lead the Cardinal attack with 15 kills, no other player hit for double figures with Ashley Hart (So. - Birmingham, Mich.) had eight kills with Samantha Cuppen (Sr. - Port Huron, Mich.) and Danielle Guss (So. - Lambertville, Mich.) adding five and four, respectively.

Defensively, Guss was very strong finishing with 13 digs while Ashley Zair (Sr. - West Bloomfield, Mich.) anchored the unit with 15 digs. At the net, however, Concordia only registered seven total blocks against the Saints.

Siena Heights was lead by Jessica Brown, who finished with 12 kills with Nikki Hughes and Melissa Hall both finishing with eight. Hall also added 32 assists and five digs, with Abbie Stein leading the defense with 15 digs and Hughes contributing 14 on the night.

In the race for the final playoff spot, and both teams having four games on the WHAC docket, the Cardinals will need to finish one game ahead of the Saints to earn a trip to the postseason. Concordia has a home game against Davenport on Oct. 27 and three road games remaining (Indiana Tech, Cornerstone, Aquinas). For Siena Heights, they have two home games remaining (Davenport, Cornerstone) and two road trips (Aquinas, UM-Dearborn).

Both teams face the Grand Rapids schools once each with Davenport, Cornerstone and Aquinas combining for a 16-14 conference record and a 55-33 overall mark. However, while Concordia plays Indiana Tech (currently 10-0 in the WHAC and 21-8 overall), Siena Heights will host the Wolves of UMD (1-10 WHAC, 7-21 overall).
