Sophomore Sean Webb
(Oct. 19, 2009 - Grand Rapids, Mich.) -- For the first time this season a Concordia golfer not named Jordan Marken finished an event as the leader as Sean Webb scored a team-best 85 on Monday afternoon in the final conference jamboree of the fall season. Webb finished in a tie for 27th place in the tournament, with the ever-steady Marken struggling for the first time in his career with a 21-over 92 to finish 35th overall and second on the team.
The Cardinals only fielded four for the final event and had a rough day on the links with a seventh-place finish with a 109-over 393 team score, 60 strokes from both Saints (Aquinas and Siena Heights) who tied for fifth with identical 333's.
Marcus Brussee of Cornerstone was the individual champ with a three-stroke victory after a round of 73, two over par. Brussee edged his fellow teammate Ben Vanbiesbrouck and Cam Thomas of Davenport, who both finished with five-over scores of 76 for the day.
With Brussee and Vanbiesbrouck leading the charge, the Golden Eagles won the final event with a team score of 308, three strokes ahead of Thomas and his Panther teammates.
Aside from Webb and Marken, the other Cardinals on the course Monday were Kyle Barlow, who shot a 27-over 98 (38th), and Nathan Hand, who finished in 40th with a 118, 47 strokes over par.
With the final event of the fall season completed, the Cardinals will continue to work on their game in preparation for the spring season.
