(October 3, 2009 - Ann Arbor, Mich) After a lackluster outing on Wednesday against Marygrove College, the Concordia women's soccer team played like a more determined unit on Saturday, beating Indiana Tech 5-1 to earn their first conference win of the season.

The Cardinals looked like a different team from the kickoff as they came out fast and scored eight minutes into the game when Laura Johnston (Fr. - Ann Arbor, Mich) found a trailing Emily Oprish (Fr. - Dearborn, Mich) for the game's first goal. The goal was the first of the season for Oprish.

The home team would score again off a corner kick by Sarah Spader (Sr. - Warren, Mich) that founds it's way to senior defender Amy Zuccarell (Ottawa Lake, Mich) that she headed in for her second goal of the season. The score would remain 2-0 in favor of the Cardinals going into halftime.

The Cardinals would add another goal only five minutes into the second half off a sharp shot from a direct kick from Spader that was out of the reach of the Warrior keeper. After giving up an Indiana Tech (2-9, 2-5) goal at the 73:19 mark, Oprish would connect for her second of the game off a rebound from a corner kick by Spader.

Concordia put the game out of reach on their fifth and final goal of the match when Spader once again took advantage of a direct kick and a timely bounce off a Warrior defender to score her second goal of the game to go along with her two assists. The five goals scored would be the most since an 8-0 win over Findlandia on October 25, 2008.

The Cardinals will look to avenge their loss to Marygrove when the two teams play for the second time in a week when they travel to Margrove for a 4pm game on Wednesday.  They will then look to move up in the conference standings when they host Aquinas on Saturday at noon. Aquinas stands in third place with a record of 7-3-1 and 3-1-1 in WHAC play.
