(Sept. 28, 2009 - Canton, Mich.) -- The weather was horrendous as rain pelted the golfers throughout the afternoon and the excessive wind created a chilly climate. This may have been a perfect recipe for the Concordia men's golf team as the Cardinals tied Siena Heights for sixth in the fifth WHAC Jamboree, the first time ever Concordia didn't finish in last. Jordan Marken (Fr. - Dexter, Mich.) finished in a tie for third overall with a 6-over 78, only three strokes off the lead.
Andy Myers of Siena Heights won the event with a 75, while Marken tied two other players for a third place finish.
The other three Cardinals who factored into the team score were Sean Webb (So. - Ann Arbor, Mich.) who hit 88 on the day, Nathan Hand (Fr. - Belleville, Mich.) who shot a 93 and Tyler Schlitzkus (So. - Gladwin, Mich.) who finished with a 98. The other Cardinals on the course were Kyle Barlow (Jr. - Howell, Mich.) who shot a 100, while Brad Girling (So. - Warren, Mich.) finished with 104 on the day.
Despite having the individual winner, Siena Heights ended with a tie for sixth as two Saints failed to finish while the other three on the course shot a combined a 282.
Both Concordia and Siena Heights finished with team scores of 357, which was 69-over par and 30 off the lead as both Cornerstone and Madonna tied for the team win with identical scores of 318.
Concordia is hoping the finish on Monday will propel them to better finishes in the last two events of the season as Saturday the Cardinals will participate in the sixth WHAC Jamboree at Fellows Creek Golf Course hosted by Madonna. The fall season will conclude with the final conference match when Cornerstone hosts on October 19 at Quail Ridge Golf Course.
