(Sept. 16, 2009 - Grand Rapids, Mich.) -- The Concordia men's golf team has made great strides in becoming a more consistent and successful team on the links this season. While the Cardinals are looking to close the gap on the WHAC field, they have found themselves between 10-15 strokes behind the competition each time out this season and Wednesday was no exception as the men finished 12 strokes behind the Saints of Siena Heights as the Cards finished seventh in the fourth jamboree of the conference season shooting a team 348.
The Cornerstone Golden Eagles took home the team championship with a two-stroke victory after a team total of 299. The Golden Eagles' Ben Vanbiesbrouck won the individual portion with a two-under 70 at the Highlands Country Club in Grand Rapids.
Jordan Marken (Fr. - Dexter, Mich.) continues to be Concordia's best golfer as the freshman shot an 11-over 83 to finish in a tie for 25th overall. Just two strokes behind Marken was Kyle Barlow (Jr. - Howell, Mich.), who 85 earned him a 30th place finish.
The other Cardinals on the course were Sean Webb (88 - 35th), Tyler Schlitzkus (who 92 was a season best, earning him the 38th position), Nate Hand (93 - 39th) and Brad Girling (97 - 40th).
Concordia has three chances remaining to break out of the bottom and move up the WHAC standings this fall. The next WHAC Jamboree will be on the Cardinals home course of Pheasant Run in Canton on Sept. 28. Concordia will finish their fall schedule with a match at Fellows Creek Country Club in Livonia (hosted by Madonna) on Oct. 3 and then over a two-week layoff until the final conference match on Oct. 19 at Quail Ridge Country Club in Grand Rapids hosted by Cornerstone.
