(June 10, 2009 - Ann Arbor, Mich.) -- The Concordia women's basketball team was looking to upgrade the level of play at the guard position entering the 2009-2010 season, and the Cardinals may have done so with the signing of Kortni Elsworth, a 5-6 transfer from Northwood University.
Elsworth played in 13 games for the Timberwolves last season after a stellar prep career at Goodrich High School, where she earned All-State honors three seasons including First Team selection her junior season as well as being All-Conference all four seasons in high school.
Elsworth abilities weren't limited to the court as she was won a state championship in the long jump as a member of the state champion Goodrich squad. Elsworth was also adept on the diamond as well, earning and All-State selection for softball.
Her desire to pursue a degree in Education lead her to Ann Arbor, where the Concordia University program is one of the most respected in the area.
"We look forward to having Kortni at Concordia and believe that she will have an immediate impact on our basketball program," said women's basketball coach Andrea Gorski. "She brings in a ton of talent to the guard position along with toughness and pure athleticism. Coach Curtis at Northwood had nothing but positive things to say about Kortni and we feel she will be a great fit for our style of play."
