(May 28, 2009 - Ann Arbor, Mich.) -- The Concordia women's golf program made a swift improvement to the fledgling program with the signing of two local golfers as Head Coach Matt Distelrath has made a strong push with his first recruiting class. The Cardinals added Berlynn Beaver of Wayne Memorial High School and Brittany Villa of Belleville High School this past week.

Beaver qualified for the Division 1 state finals and was a multuple All-Conference golfer in the MEGA Conference. This past season, Beaver served as the team captain for Wayne Memorial.

"We are very excited to have Berlynn to join our program," said Coach Distlerath. "She loves the game and has been improving every year during her high school career and I think that once she gets to college she can focus and become a very competitive golfer,"

Joining Beaver is Villa, herself an All-Conference golfer from the MEGA Conference. Villa was also a standout volleyball player at Belleville, but with a focus on one sport can further improve his skills on the links.

"This is a great signing for our program," said Distlerath. "Brittany was a very dedicated athlete in high school, and so we believe that once she commits solely to golf, the sky is the limit. She works very hard on her game and is always on the course."

Distlerath feels that both golfers will be tremendous leaders for the your program and are the sort of individuals that will raise the level of play and expectations at Concordia.
