(April 29, 2009 - Mount Pleasant, Mich.) -- The Concordia baseball team wrapped up the regular season portion of their schedule with a trip to Central Michigan to battle the Chippewas on Tuesday. The Cardinal bats struck for 10 hits on the day, but only scored twice, as seven different pitchers took the mound in a 12-2 loss to the Chips.

Of the 10 hits eight were recorded by four Cardinals: Zach Johnston (Jr. - Ionia, Mich.), Jeff Bultinck (So. - Sterling Heights, Mich.), Tony Pounders (Jr. - Livonia, Mich.) and Frank Persichino (Jr. - Sterling Heights, Mich.).

The Concordia staff planned to use a different pitcher each inning in preparation for the coming WHAC tournament and started with Brent McNeil (Jr. - Springboro, Ohio.). The lefty threw two innings allowing three hits and a run to take the loss. The Cards picked up solid outings from Matt St. Kitts (Fr. - Pickering, Ont.), Cameron Hynds (Fr. - Milan, Mich.) and Denver Straub (So. - Milan, Mich.) and a good outing from Ryan Noack (Fr. - Hamilton, Ont.).

The Cards tied the game at 1-1 in the third off of the third home run of the season from Bultinck and added a run in the fifth as Pounders tripled to right center to score Zach Johnston, who hit a one-out double.

Concordia (23-28) will take on Davenport University in the opening game of the tournament on Thursday afternoon. The Cards and Panthers split the regular season series 2-2.
