Concordia entered Sunday's double header matchup against
Indiana Tech looking to close out their regular season on a winning note and hoping
to avenge a sweep at the hands of the Warriors on April 11 when they lost both
games 11-0 and 10-4.
The Cardinals were coming off two losses to a strong
Davenport team a day earlier in which they lost 17-0 in game one, but came
storming back in the second game to force the Panthers into an 11 inning affair
in which they eventually lost 5-1.
After falling behind by two runs to the Warriors in the
first inning, the Cardinals (10-34, 5-23) would have to come from behind to
snap their 10 game losing streak and earn their fifth conference win. A Catherine Herriman (Fr - Adrian, Mich)
triple with one out in the second got things going for the home team. Herriman would eventually score on an RBI
ground out by freshman Erica Hayworth (Farmington Hills, Mich).
Indiana Tech (13-16, 24-25) would score another run in the
third inning to take a 3-1 lead.
Concordia would have their biggest inning in the bottom of the fourth as
they would score two runs to knot the game at three. Jeni Bollenbacher (Fr - Edwardsburg, Mich) reached
base on a lead-off walk to start the inning.
After advancing to second on a passed ball, Bollenbacher would score on
a double to left center by Georgia Dewey (Jr - Marine City, Mich). Danielle Guss (Fr - Lambertville, Mich)
singled to right field to score Dewey.
The game would not remain tied for long as the Cardinals
scored the game winning run in the bottom half of the fifth inning when
Bollenbacher tripled to left field scoring Ashley Junga (Sr - Macomb, Mich) who
had reached base on a bunt single.
Bollenbacher not only collected the game winning RBI, but also pitched
her way to her seventh win on the season.
Concordia will enter the WHAC tournament as a seventh seed
and face Aquinas College at noon on Thursday at Bailey Park in Battle Creek,
Mich. The Saints (22-4, 34-10) swept the
season series against the Cardinals and enter the tournament as the second
overall seed.
