(February 21, 2009 - Ft. Wayne, Ind.) -- The Concordia men's basketball team knew they were in for a tough battle in their game at Indiana Tech on Saturday to close out the regular season schedule. Up 18-14, the Warriors used an eight-point run to build a double-digit lead and the game would never get close than 10 the rest of the way as the home team cruised to a 80-58 victory.
The lead would grow to as much as 20 in the first half with the two teams heading to the break with the Warriors leading 48-26 off of nearly 61 percent shooting, while the Cardinals were able to convert only 35 percent of their attempts.
The second half was much the same, as the Warriors would enjoy their largest advantage at 60-37 before settingly for the 22-point victory.
The Cardinals were lead by Marquis Turley (So. - Grand Rapids, Mich.), who scored 12 points, and Jeremy Simmons (Fr. - Detroit, Mich.), who added 10 points. Dennis Meaney (So. - Perry, Mich.) had a solid day as he finished just under a double-double as he scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds. Matt Jastrzembowski (So. - Pinckney, Mich.) was equally effective off the bench as he added eight points and six boards.
Tim Browning was deadly all afternoon for the Warriors as scored 20 points off of 63 percent shooting while adding eight rebounds. While Anthony Johnson added 13 points for Tech, it was Brad Webster's dominance on the glass that was critical to the Warriors as he finished with 17 rebounds - 15 on the defensive end - while adding five points.
With the loss, Concordia (10-20, 2-12 WHAC) will head to Davenport on Wednesday evening to start the WHAC playoffs. The Panthers (20-10, 10-4) doubled their win total this season under first year head coach Burt Paddock and finished with their first winning season in program history.
