Senior Shawna Dorton
(November 17, 2008 - Ann Arbor, Mich.) -- After helping the Concordia volleyball team win the second highest win-total in the last decade, outside hitter Shawna Dorton (Sr. - Lincoln Park, Mich.) was honored by the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference coaches with a honorable mention selection on the postseason All-Conference team.
Dorton finished her final campaign in Ann Arbor with a career-high 413 kills, with 35 assists, 25 service aces, 108 digs, six solo blocks and 97 block assists.
Dorton's kill total for the year is ninth best all-time for a single season and raised her career total to 1,161; which is third all-time in Concordia history. Dorton also finished her career with 207 block assists, which is second only to fellow senior Erica Manning's (Sr. - St. Johns, Mich.) 264 while her season total was fourth all-time, trailing only teammates Manning and Ashley Hart (Fr. - Birmingham, Mich.) and former teammate Erin Walczak (Class of '08).
Joining Dorton on the All-Conference team is Hart, who was named to the All-Freshmen team. Hart finished the year with the second-most block assists for a season, tied with Walczak at 105. The rookie hitter finished her first year with 285 kills, second most on the season; six assists, six service aces, and 25 digs. Hart was also second on the squad with 20 solo blocks, with Manning finishing with 31; and her block assists trailed only Manning' 124 for the season and record book.
Manning herself was honored, along with Ashley Zair (Jr. - West Bloomfield, Mich.), for her academic excellence. The duo was named to the WHAC All-Academic team with Manning picking up her second consecutive honor and Zair earning her first academic award. Manning and Zair also are in line for national academic honors to be announced later.
Zair was also chosen as the Concordia representative to the WHAC Champions of Character team.
