(October 23, 2008 - Adrian, Mich.) - The Concordia men's soccer team continues to improve as they put together a strong effort against Siena Heights coming away with a 1-1 double-overtime tie. This marks the third tie this season for the Cardinals and most since 1985 when they recorded four.
The first half saw Siena Heights (5-6-3, 3-5-1) outshoot the Cardinals 12-6, and despite a few quality scoring chances, the home team was unable to capitalize on any of their opportunities. The opening half would end with both teams scoreless.
The Saints dominated in time of possession in the second half as well, but the Cardinals were able to take advantage of an error on the Siena Heights defense. After the Saints failed to clear the ball out of the goal box, the Cardinal's Ali Badra (So.-Niamey, Niger) took advantage of the miscue to score the game's first goal at the 66:26 mark.
With the score still 1-0 deep into the second half, the Cardinals were close to winning their first conference game of the season. However, the Saints would produce the game-tying goal with less than eight minutes to play on a successful free kick by Andrew Hensley.
Neither team could produce the game winner in either of the overtime periods, and the game ended in a 1-1 tie. Concordia keeper Brian Kressbach (Jr.-Clinton Twp, Mich) collected eleven saves while his counterpart Andy Klenner came up with four.
The Cardinals will look to follow-up with another strong effort on Saturday when they travel to South Bend to face-off against Holy Cross College.
