Sophomore Gwen VanDerworp
(October 4, 2008 - Milwaukee, Wisc.) -- A season full of weekly improvements provided the proverbial fruits as Gwen VanDerworp (So. - Milford, Mich.) finished fourth overall in the women's 6K race at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warrior Invitational Saturday morning in Milwaukee. VanDerworp crossed at 25:05.38, only 1:17 off the lead as Sarah Olson of Alverno College won the meet.
Cree Thompson (Fr. - Detroit, Mich.) had her highest finish of the season as she scampered to a 19th place finish with a time of 26:48.23. Sarah Card (So. - Cadillac, Mich.) had one of her strongest runs of the season as well as her time of 30:01.61 was good for a 53rd place finish.
With only three runners in the field, the Cardinals were not eligible for the team award, but in comparison to the rest of the field's top three runners, the Cards had the sixth best times when considering just the top trio of runners for each squad.
Benedictine University won the team event with Hannah Miller helping her team with a second place overall finish with a time of 24:50.30.
The Cards return to the course in two weeks when they return to Bowling Green State University. On Oct. 18, the Cards will participate in the Falcon Invitational, the same site where they ran in the Mel Brodt Invitational on Sept. 13.
After the BGSU event, the Cards will have only the WHAC Championships in Grand Rapids on Nov. 8 and the NAIA Nationals in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Nov. 22 on their fall schedule.
