(October 1, 2008 - Grand Rapids, Mich.) -- When the Concordia men's soccer team walked off the field on Oct. 28, 1997 there was no way the program would know what was about to happen for the next decade and more. But after a 4-3 win on that day, which gave them their fourth conference win of the season, the Cardinals would lose every WHAC game over the next 10-plus seasons. A total of 116 losses. Until Wednesday afternoon when the Cards secured a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Cornerstone. A tie that otherwise would seem insignificant, is rather large and shows things could be turning in favor of the young Cards.

The Cardinals only had only three shots on goal the entire game Wednesday, but it was a direct kick off the foot of Erik Schultz (Jr. - Belleville, Mich.) from 20 yards out at the 17 minute mark of the first half that might have not only put Concordia up 1-0 but changed a program psyche.

Concordia clamped down defensively on the Golden Eagles, who only had nine shots on goal themselves and until the 77th minute, were unable to get the ball behind goalkeeper Brian Kressbach (Jr. - Clinton Twp., Mich.).

Cornerstone evened the game as Zack McCabe centered a pass that Ben Hanson drove past Kressbach to put Cornerstone on the scoreboard. Kressbach would finish with eight saves on the afternoon as the Cardinals recorded their second consecutive tie after finishing in a 0-0 whitewash against Rochester on Monday.

The Cardinals are now riding a two-game streak without a loss. The last time they went as many games without suffering a defeat was a three-game stretch of victories in October '97 which included the game against Aquinas.

Concordia (0-3-2, 0-3-1 WHAC) is looking to take the next step Saturday afternoon when they travel back to Grand Rapids, this time to battle the Saints of Aquinas. As the Cardinals continue to improve, the prospect of them picking up the elusive win is nearing ever so close.
