(September 30, 2008 - Ann Arbor, Mich) -- The Cardinal women's soccer team failed to score a goal for the third consecutive game losing 1-0 to Cornerstone Tuesday afternoon in conference matchup. The loss leaves Concordia still searching for their first conference win after falling to 0-2-2 in the WHAC. In the four conference games, the Cards have only surrendered five goals (four to Madonna) but have only been able to score a single tally themselves.
After a Golden Eagle shot hit the post nearly twenty minutes into the game, Concordia keeper Kelly Wurzell (Sr. - Lambertville, Mich) kept the game scoreless by deflecting a shot by Cornerstone's Asleigh Lund over the crossbar at the 33:09 mark of the half.
With each team failing to score in the first half, but the Golden Eagles got on the board from a shot by junior Jessica Brussee at the 60:30 mark of the second half. The goal, which was assisted by Hillary Baker, was the ninth goal of the season for Brussee.
Concordia would be denied on a Rachel Vandermade (Fr. - Ann Arbor, Mich) shot on goal at the 73:33 mark. Cornerstone keeper Julianne Bruining made a leaping save to knock the ball over the goal to help her team maintain the slim lead.
Wurzell and Bruining played even, each stopping five shots on the day.
Concordia will face conference opponent Aquinas (2-2-0, 3-6-0) on Saturday in Grand Rapids. The Cardinals dropped both matches to the Saints a year ago.
